We were in bed earlier than we have been so I felt rested when I was up at 4am. I went up to the lounge for coffee and my morning reading and brain games. Ash joined about 6.

Our big errand this morning was to turn the car in. We left about 8 to do that, stopping to get gas first. It was about 4 miles into the suburbs and since we hadn’t had our morning walk yet we decided walking back would be it.

I was surprised how much green there was. At times it was hard to remember we were in a city of over a million people.

We couldn’t figure this area out. We got detoured because a walking path was closed due to construction. Some kind of urban farming project. Garden after garden of flowers and vegetables, each a similar size with tiny houses on each one.

Several beautiful and spacious parks.

And this interesting tower we can see from many parts of the city that reminds me of Hemisfair in San Antonio. It is called Colonius and is a communications tower.

Above and below: some fun art through one of the neighborhoods.

Yet another park where we sat and rested a bit.

We made it back to the hotel a little after 11 and rested some before going out for a simple lunch.

Ash was in the mood for a chicken sandwich and we didn’t feel like putting too much thought into it so we broke a rule and landed at a Burger King in the train station.

After we walked along the Rhine and through Allstadt or Old Town.

We found a place for pedicures and that was a nice rest. It was only 1pm and we had already walked 7 miles at that point.

After that we found a nice cafe with a view of the cathedral and chilled some more.

Our last shot of the cathedral probably before we head to London tomorrow.

It is approaching 4pm. We are relaxing at the hotel before going out for a nice dinner.

We left about 5:45 and did a 2 mile walk to the restaurant. We topped out at over 10 miles today, the most of any day so far.

We came across some Stumbling Stones on the way. We learned about these on the Frankfort tour. Somehow in 5 prior visits to Germany I never noticed them. But after Saturday’s tour we saw them regularly.

Including these bunches on our walk this evening, a block away from each other. Each includes details one victim of the Nazi regime – name, DOB, etc – and are placed at their last known address.

So 17 people in this one building were lost in the Holocaust.

Sobering.

Our destination was a restaurant called La Societe.

We took pics of each other.

There was a Lot of details to each of these dishes that I will not remember so you’re getting the short versions. This was the start: a carrot tart with a beet cover, and a potato soup with a chive oil. Both were great especially the soup. We knew we’d be in for a treat.

Smoked eel on a panna cotta, with pickles and a horseradish ice cream

Carabiniero – shrimp from Portugal – with a beurre blanc, kaffir, and lime.

Poached oyster in some kind of foam and pickles.

Sea bass in a mushroom broth and fresh mushrooms and artichoke.

Pigeon in a light sauce, smoked oregano oil.

Green apple sorbet with herbs for the palate cleanser.

Ash took the cheese option for dessert. Mine was another sorbet, light and tart.

And two other sweet bites at the end.

That was 3 hours and we were exhausted when it was done, but we enjoyed every bite. That’s the last meal we will have like that on this trip.

We took an Uber back to the hotel and packed to leave for London tomorrow. This trip ain’t over yet!

I'd love to hear from you!
