And primarily what I mean by incredible sightings is not necessarily the things we saw, although that is certainly part of it, but that the guides saw them in the first place.

After lunch, I attended the photography class and picked up a couple of tips. Then I went back to the room to lay down, and Ash attended a ceviche cooking class.

We went back up a little before 4pm to have some coffee before the next outing.

It had rained a little and we had a lovely bit of the sun coming through the clouds over the river as we started out.

This is a black collared hawk. We saw one this morning as well and there will be one more this afternoon. And then I’m probably done showing this bird.

Above and below: scenery shots.

A flock of egrets sitting in a tree.

Wait for it…

They called this a Jesus bird. It is very light, has long toes and can walk on water.

I don’t remember what this was but it was very small and difficult to see.

Here is the other black collared hawk.

We are riding above or through what is referred to as water lettuce.

Above and below: a couple of fun time lapse videos showing bits of our journey.

Here is one of the incredible sightings. The photo on the left shows you how high up and far away these birds were. It took me a very long time to see them. That the guide could see them from our skiff, blew my mind. But it’s a vulture and a toucan.

A red crested something. Pretty small, pretty cute.

A heron standing at the very top of a very tall tree.

This is the one that really blew my mind. In the middle of the photo is the red circle that shows where our eyes were focused. From this distance, the guide saw a sloth.

He is hanging upside down way in the back of those trees in the circle. The progressive zooms in the triplet above gives you you a slightly better idea although it’s pretty blurry.

A white heron at night.

We got back to the boat about 7 PM. We met at 7:30 in the lecture room for an introduction to the entire staff.

Dinner was at 8 PM.

A delicious creamy potato soup.

Beef tips, very tender, and a light gravy, and au gratin cauliflower. Ash had a similar dish that was with chicken instead.

This was so good we asked for another, and they gave it to us. Frozen passionfruit wrapped in thin slices of mango served on tapioca with what I said to Ash was some of the best vanilla ice cream I have ever had. Later, I heard Jeffrey three tables down say the exact same thing.

We got fitted for rubber boots, which we will need for our 6 AM excursion tomorrow, and then got ready for bed. I’ll just leave that hanging and you can come back tomorrow to find out what that means.

It was unconventional of me to do two posts today, but I’m glad I did it. What did you think?

I'd love to hear from you!
